Yeah, I’ve been watching a ton of Star Trek and anime over the past few years. (More on Star Trek later.) For now, I want to share a list of some of my favorite anime I’ve watched this past year. Just to be clear—these aren’t brand-new releases, just new-to-me discoveries.
I’m not ranking them, they are all awesome 🙂
Dan Da Dan
There’s a theme with most of the shows on this list: I’ve watched this one several times… I LOVE this show! Imaginative, funny, and with a clever premise.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
One of the most incredible shows on the list. It’s one of the most thoughtfully and well-paced shows I’ve seen in many years (not just anime, but everything).
Blue Eye Samurai
I’m a sucker for a strong female lead, and this show has one of the best of all time. Bloody, emotionally deep, and packed with incredible characters.
One Punch Man
Holy shit. This show… There may not be a more fun watch on this list. The fact that the main character is bald is a special added bonus.
Delicious in Dungeon
This show is an absolute joy. The concept is hilarious and surprisingly heartwarming, with a cast of characters you’ll quickly fall in love with.
Demon Slayer
A beautifully crafted world with incredible fight scenes and characters that will stick with you long after you’ve finished watching. It took a couple of episodes, but I was hooked quickly once I got into it.
Hunter x Hunter
Complex characters and a great plot that keeps you on your toes. This is worth watching just for the Killua storylines.
Attack on Titan
The first couple of seasons of this show are an awesome rollercoaster of suspense, action, and pure shock… It gets less interesting and just plain weird toward the end.
Hell’s Paradise
Gritty action and dark fantasy. It’s a brutal and beautiful story about a group of death row convicts sent on a dangerous mission to a mythical island to find the elixir of immortality. A fun watch to the end!
Mob Psycho 100
Mob is a funny little guy who just wants to live a normal life, but his powers and deep-seated emotions keep getting in the way. It’s funny, visually stunning, and has a surprising amount of heart.
Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead
What if the zombie apocalypse was a good thing? The main character is thrilled that he no longer has to go to his terrible job. He decides to make a bucket list of 100 things he wants to do before he dies, and the result is a quirky, colorful, and hilarious adventure.
