Stoclet Frise : Expectation

So I was talking about favorite artists with one of my good friends and they mentioned Klimt… I was quite embarrassed that I had never heard of him. I have been looking at his stuff and really enjoying it.

The piece above has grown into one of my favorites. I love the way that her face blends with the colors of the rest of the piece, but still remains a focal point as the triangles, background and her own hands are leading the eye straight to it.

I see the beautiful chaos of life happening around a truly stunning female figure. The swirling lines behind her could represent this beautiful chaos in life, and the repetition of these swirls on the triangles of her dress further push this point by showing that the action or confusion is within her as well as surrounding her… To me, the bright blues, purples, yellows and greens on the dress symbolize the positive, good and beautiful things inside of her. They are combating the chaos and showing her internal struggle. Will the small amount of color and love inside of her be able to reduce the chaos and award happiness? … I am also curious about the implied action happening (her body is leaning to the left): Is she running from the chaos that looks as if it is following her, or is she turning to face it.
