Wildcats New Logo Celebrated by Fans

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

All-Star Baseball ClassicJenks WildcatsJenks – The Wildcats new logo has been seen all across the front range this week after the Cats 2010 ASBC victory.

The new idols are being worshiped as the final piece that put the Cats over the top.

“It’s the logo… We always needed one. We finally got it and BOOM, we blew up,” said Jimmy Deitz, the founder of The Religion of the Paw. “We just believe that what MBS [Misty Bell Stiers] did was amazing. She is our Virgin *cough* Mary.”

The Religion of the Paw is the most spiritual fan amalgamation of life and the logo, but it’s not the only one. The logo has entered Jenks life in every thing from license plates to tattoos to name changes.

“Refer to me by my name MothaF*****,” said the man formerly known as Silas Brown. “I only respond to people that call me by my name.” He then held up an image of the logo, similar to the gold one he wears around his neck. “I LOVE me some Mike Schmidt, if I have a kid, he’ll be known as Mike Schmidt.” He then re-held up the image of the logo.

Wildcats owner Sam Stiers said he finds all of the love for the logo obvious.

“I knew when my wife created it that it would not only be a wonderful addition to the team, but would touch people’s lives.”

Who knows where the love fest will end or even IF it will end. In the eyes of the people of Jenks, the logo might only be surpassed in beauty by the purple mountains that tower above the still partying town.

Game 1:All-Star Baseball Classic
Wildcats 18, Devil Dogs 1
The Cats first game of the tourney in the deadly pool 2 (Note: All of the final four teams on Sunday came from pool 2). Both teams were hastened onto the field do to the Sketchers getting stuck in a brothel when Babe decided to take one more jog around the bases. The Cats were the more prepared team and aided by missing lifetimer Ernie Banks, rumored to be on the same field as the Bambino, Tom Seaver threw a complete game, 1-run gem and secured the MVP award for the game. On offense the Cats looked great, powered by a 10-run 6th inning, every Cat in the starting lineup scored and new Wildcats Charlie Keller, Luke Appling and Frank Robinson set the pace.

Game 2:
Sketchers 12, Wildcats 9
Playing their first game as the dreaded home team on McCall Stadium the Cats fell victim to spotty offense. No team won as the home team on Saturday at McCall. Outside of a solid 6-run 3rd inning the Cats were only able to manage 3 more runs all game. Lefty Grove through seven solid but unspectacular innings as the Wildcats took their first loss of the ASBC.

Game 3: THE BRAWL
Mudhens 16, Wildcats 9
The featured and final game of Saturday saw two old rivals battle one another in anbrawl epic game. The game started as fans imagined as the teams traded runs and kept things close. Then in the top of the 7th inning manager Joe Medwick pulled starter Don Drysdale and inserted the Barber Sal Maglie. Maglie quickly through a devastating high fastball at the head of C Roy Campanella and one of the most gruesome and ferocious brawls in ASB history ensued. Both benches and bullpens cleared and by the end relievers Tug McGraw (Cats) and Joaquin Andujar (Hens) had spread cancer and rabies respectively to several other players. Cats single-season monster Jack Clark was ejected for sodomizing Rogers Hornsby with a bat. The Hens blew up on the depleted Cats squad and cruised to an easy victory.

Sunday
Game 4:

Wildcats 15, Falcons 13
When the games that matter started the Wildcats were still a bit shaken from their run in with the Hens the day before. Many players had to get repeated shots to the stomach to rid themselves of the “gift of Andujar.” The defending champion Falcons looked solid behind Roy Cullenbine and lifetimer Paul Molitor and jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first. The Cats repeatedly tried to claw their way back into the game only to watch the Falcons match or outscore them in the bottom of the frame. While ineffective for most of the game, Tom Seaver did one thing to keep the Cats in the game, he owned Barry Bonds. Bonds 0-6 performance kept the Cats within striking distance down 13-10 heading into the ninth. Lifetimer Mike Schmidt carried the offense with two homers and hit a game winning RBI single  in the 9th to finish the game 4-6, with 2 home runs and 6 RBI. Even with a crucial base running error by Jack Clark in the inning the Cats were able to tack on one more and went into the bottom of the 9th up by 2. John Franco came in to shut down the Falcons in the 9th and earn the save. Sandy Koufax got the win in relief and lifetimer Mike Schmidt won the MVP.

Game 5:
Wildcats 19, Sketchers 14
The Cats looked to avenge their Saturday loss to the Sketchers by throwing Lefty Grove back on the mound. Grove looked great and earned the win with 7-effective innings against a Sketchers team rife with turmoil. A crucial error by second baseman Rod Carew in the first led to an on-and-off fight that first turned physical with pitcher Ken Brett and later took the unfortunate turn to racism. The Cats took advantage of the distracted Sketchers to hand Babe Ruth his first ever loss on Sunday of an ASBC. Mike Schmidt got a lot of help, but led the way with a 3-6 performance, 3 RBIs, 4 runs, a homer and a triple. Keller, Appling and Robinson continued to impress.

Game 6:
Wildcats 22, Mudhens 11
The Cats again looked for redemption in their next game against the Mudhens as the two met for the first time at Fogelberg. And again Manager Joe Medwick showed faith in his guys by throwing pitcher Don Drysdale, who lost to the Hens on Saturday. The Wildcats held a team meeting prior to the game and Mike Schmidt said the team was as focused as ever to redeem themselves after the brawl game. Whatever they did worked as they were locked in from the first. After a 2-run first inning the Cats exploded in the second and saw the first 11 batters not only reach base, but score. Capped by a grand slam by pitcher Drysdale the Cats quickly jumped out to a 13-1 lead after two. The rest of the game saw both teams pile on additional runs as the Cats were able to match whatever the Hens threw at them and earn the most decisive win Sunday would see. Schmidt would have another solid game, but the Jack Clark redemption train kept on rolling and Clark won the MVP with a 3-6, 1 BB, 2 HR, 4 runs, 4 RBI line.  Drysdale got the win.

Game 7: CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Wildcats 18, Mudhens 17
Some observers called it the best game ever played. There may be equals, but it’s hard to imagine anything topping the back and forth, epic battle that was the 2010 ASBC Championship Game. The Hens showed a lot of grit battling through Babe Ruth, Frank White and the Sketchers to earn another shot at the Cats. At this point the teams were 1-1 against each other in the tournament and knew each other well. Tom Seaver would get his third start of the tournament and would throw 7 solid innings. The Cats were the home team this time around and started off well taking a 4-2 lead into the second inning. A crucial error schmidtin the top of the second cost the Cats 4-unearned runs and infuriated manager Joe Medwick. A few players said after the game they’d rather have another bout of “The gift of Andujar” than endure another tirade from Medwick. Whatever he said worked as the Cats put a 5 spot on the board, behind Schmidt’s 2-run homer, in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead 9-8 heading into the 3rd. The Hens would tie the game in the third but again lifetimer Mike Schmidt’s determination and heart showed through as he blasted his second 2-run homer in the bottom to give the Cats back the lead. The game cooled the next two innings as neither team scored, but the Hens had another giant inning in the 6th and took a 16-14 lead into the 7th. Down to their last 9 outs the Cats bottom of the order came up and after an Appling single, big Frank Robinson launched a monster shot over the center field wall to tie the game. Pinch hitter Jeff Bagwell would later come around on a Eddie Collins single to give the Cats a one run lead. The Hens would tie it in the eighth as the epic battle continued. After the Cats failed to score in the 8th, John Franco came in to shut down the Hens in the top of the 9th. Game tied 17-17 going into the bottom frame. Collins led off with a single, but Jack Clark continued his rough day with his fifth K. The Hens wanted nothing to do with boppers Schmidt and Keller and walked both to load the bags with Gene Tenace up. Tenace drew another walk and the Cats won their first ASBC title! Mike Schmidt won his third MVP of the day with a 3-4, 3 BB, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 run line.

Mike Schmidt was a MONSTER on Sunday, recording the following line: 15-22, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 5 HRs, 16 RBI, 12 runs and 4 BBs. Hands down the MVP of the Classic.

Jenks Wildcats
All-Star Baseball ClassicFogelberg – Mike Schmidt turned to his wife when he woke up and asked: “Did Sunday really happen?”

The Wildcats and their fans awoke Monday to the realization that Jenks stood alone as All-Star Baseball Classic Champions for the first time in the club’s history after Sunday’s 18-17 triumph over the McCall Mudhens.

“I’m not sure if it’s completely sunk in yet,” Schmidt said at Monday morning’s news conference at the convention center in Fogelberg. “It seems like as the minutes go by, it slowly does.

“Our victory yesterday was the culmination of years of hard work, fighting through a lot of adversity, ups and downs and more importantly than that, representing a city that has been through so much,” Schmidt said.

“We look at it as a responsibility. Our city, our fans, gave us strength and we owe this to them. That’s made all the difference. … There’s no people that you would want to win for more than the city of Jenks. So it’s an honor.”

As Schmidt spoke, coach Joe Medwick sat off to the side, elbows on knees, face buried in his hands. When it was his turn to speak, he leaned on the podium, clutching the ASBCL trophy in his right hand.

Joe Medwick“I am not sure there are words…”

Medwick then smiled and added that he had the trophy in bed with him while he slept early Monday morning.

“You can’t get enough of this,” Medwick said. “Rolled over it a couple times. I probably drooled on it. But man, there’s nothing like it. There’s no people that you would want to win for more than the city of Jenks.”

Medwick said when all was quiet in the team hotel around 3 a.m., he offered a prayer of thanks for his team and his experience in Jenks, where he became a manager for in 2003.

“When I was hired in 03, it became apparent to me that baseball was obviously very important but it was much bigger than just baseball” Medwick said. “The people here are special. The Cats’ add so much to this city.”

Their run to the All-Star Baseball Classic Championship captured the attention of baseball fans everywhere. The Nielsen Co. says the Championship game got its highest overnight ratings in 3 years, meaning there’s a strong likelihood it will be the most-watched ASBCL Championship game when the final numbers are released later Tuesday.

“I keep thinking of the word ‘magical,’ ” analyst Joe Gordon said. “When you think about the relationship between the Wildcats and the city of Jenks.”
